Beijing Mercedes-Benz Shunyi Factory started the technical transformation of domestic long wheelbase GLE, which is expected to be put into production by the end of 2026.
Beijing Benz’s production plant in Shunyi has started the technical transformation of the domestic long wheelbase GLE (code T167) in order to achieve flexible collinear production with other high-end passenger cars. The annual production capacity of this factory will remain unchanged at 150,000 vehicles. The domestic long-wheelbase GLE project was completed in April 2024, with an estimated total investment of 3.4 billion yuan. The goal is to go offline and put into production by the end of 2026.
The domestic long-wheelbase GLE will be built based on the second mid-term modification of GLE in overseas markets. The appearance of the GLE is increased with a star-studded light strip, and the car is equipped with a co-pilot display. Drawing lessons from GLC L’s lengthening strategy, it is estimated that the length of the new car will reach nearly 5.03 meters and the wheelbase will be close to 3.1 meters.
The R&D team of Mercedes-Benz China has made great efforts to localize the domestic long-wheelbase GLE, ensuring that the new car will have the rear comfort and leading intelligent technology specially designed for the China market.
In terms of power system, imported GLE equipped with 2.0T four-cylinder and 2.5T six-cylinder engines, matched with 9AT gearbox and 4MATIC four-wheel drive system, is expected to be used in domestic long-wheelbase GLE. Especially for the 2.0T engine, the latest M254 EVO series (scheduled to be put into production in August 2025) will be adopted, which will meet the national emission standards. The maximum power of its turbocharged gasoline engine can reach 95kW/L, and the corresponding maximum power is 190kW.
